GREATER NOIDA—The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) on Thursday handed over possession of 230 acres of land to filmmaker Boney Kapoor-led Bayview Bhutani Film City Private Limited for the first phase of the ambitious Film City project near the upcoming Noida International Airport, as published by Hindustan Times.
The Uttar Pradesh government is expected to schedule a foundation-laying ceremony soon, after which construction will begin at the site along the Yamuna Expressway. Yeida Chief Executive Officer Arun Vir Singh presented the possession letter to Kapoor at his office before visiting the project site in Sector 21. Farmers whose land was acquired for the project were also present at the event and received acknowledgments for their support.
“This is a historic moment. The vision of establishing the world’s largest Film City in Uttar Pradesh, as envisioned by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is now becoming a reality. We appreciate the farmers’ contributions, as this project would not have been possible without their support,” Singh said.
State officials indicated that Adityanath is expected to attend the foundation ceremony, which the developer hopes to organize before the end of April, ahead of the Noida International Airport’s commercial launch.
“We are ready to proceed as soon as the state government finalizes the date. With Yeida approving the project layout, construction will commence immediately after the event,” said Ashish Bhutani, CEO of Bhutani Group.
Bayview Bhutani submitted the layout plan for approval on Dec. 24, 2024, and Yeida granted approval on Jan. 30, 2025. The entire Film City will span 1,000 acres, with phase one covering 230 acres.
Yeida has mandated that the developer obtain necessary approvals for parking, landscaping, horticulture, and ensure phased development. The developer must also establish a film institute and obtain green building certifications to minimize environmental impact and carbon footprint.
Kapoor emphasized that the project would feature state-of-the-art studios, hotels, and a film institute to attract filmmakers globally. Initially, industry professionals from Mumbai and international locations will be brought in, but once the institute is operational, local talent from Uttar Pradesh will be trained for the film industry.
“This Film City will provide comprehensive shooting facilities under one roof, significantly reducing production costs. To mitigate extreme weather conditions, we will offer air-conditioned indoor shooting spaces. The new studio floors will range from 40,000 to 60,000 square feet, capable of accommodating large-scale sets and diverse backdrops,” said Vinod Kumar Binny, Kapoor’s line producer in Noida.
Uttar Pradesh Industries Minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi highlighted the project’s economic potential, predicting it would generate approximately 500,000 jobs, both directly and indirectly.
“The Film City is poised to become a major driver of industrial growth in Uttar Pradesh. Its success could inspire similar developments across various sectors,” Nandi said.
