GHAZIABAD — The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) has approved a property tax hike along with new measures for vending fees and parking management following an 11-hour board meeting on Friday. Out of 55 proposals tabled during the session, 48 were passed.
As published by The Economic Times, the revised tax structure will align property tax rates with the district magistrate’s (DM) circle rate and the width of the road outside the property.
Homes located along roads measuring 24 meters or wider will be taxed at a rate of Rs 4 per square foot. Properties on roads between 12 and 24 meters in width will be taxed at Rs 3.20 per square foot. On average, residents can expect an annual property tax increase of Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000.
Municipal Commissioner Vikramaditya Singh Malik said the new tax slabs would factor in both road width and property location.
In addition to the tax revision, the GMC approved the implementation of an Integrated Parking Management System (IPMS). The system will include an integrated control room linked to mobile apps, allowing residents to check parking space availability in real-time. Parking lots under IPMS will feature glow signs at entry and exit points, pink toilets for women, firefighting systems, CCTV surveillance, and power backup.
For parking rates, three-wheelers will be charged Rs 40 for the first two hours and Rs 20 for each additional two hours. Heavy vehicles will be charged Rs 80 for the initial two hours and Rs 40 for every subsequent two-hour block. Daily and monthly payment options will also be available.
The GMC also announced plans to draw yellow lines at designated weekly market spots to regulate street vendors. Vendors will not be allowed to operate beyond these marked boundaries.
The revised budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year, amounting to Rs 502 crore, was also approved despite initial opposition from councillors. Critics argued that the current financial year is nearing its end, and the budget had not been vetted by the executive committee. Mayor Sunita Dayal clarified that the approved budget is a revised version, with a full-fledged budget to be presented in the next board meeting.
The new measures aim to improve tax compliance, regulate vending zones, and enhance parking facilities across Ghaziabad.
