With the ever-changing climate and skyrocketing pollution level, more and more people are becoming aware and taking concrete steps to improve the scenario. And that is why green homes are the current buzz word among home buyers as well as investors.
As per a study, about 10% of buyers enquiring about homes are now checking if the project offers green homes and whether it has any certification to support the claim, ET Realty reported. Clearly, over the last couple of years, there has been a rising number of home buyers who are showing interest in buying not just homes, but green homes.
In fact, the trend is expected to further catch up. The Indian green buildings’ market is expected to double and may reach around 10 billion sq ft by 2022, valued between $35 billion-$50 billion. No wonder, adapting the green buildings may not only reduce the effects on the environment but it may also help developers to attract the buyers and gain a cutting edge over its competitors.
What Is Green Building?
Green building is the one that involves the practice of using environment-friendly and energy efficient processes and technologies throughout the building’s lifecycle from siting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation, and deconstruction. Such structures essentially relate to the effective use of environmental resources such as power, water, and pollution free garbage.
Parameters of Green Building
- Developers make a conscious effort to use energy efficient, non-toxic, ethical and sustainable
- Use of renewable energy, such as solar or/and wind energy
- Exploring ways to improve drinking and wastewater efficiency and management, harvesting water for safe indoor use in innovative ways, and generally minimizing water use in buildings.
- Pollution and waste reduction measures, and the enabling of re-use and recycling
- Good indoor environmental air quality
- Major focus on the plantation, optimum utilization of natural and local resources, making it cost-effective and sustainable.
