GURUGRAM – The Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) has initiated the process for two new metro corridors in Gurugram, inviting tenders on Thursday to prepare detailed project reports (DPRs) for the proposed lines, as published by The Economic Times.
The move aims to enhance connectivity between old and new Gurgaon while easing congestion on major roads.
The first proposed corridor spans 17 kilometers, connecting Bhondsi to Gurgaon Railway Station. Designed to alleviate traffic on Sohna Road and NH-8, the route will pass through key areas, including Vatika Chowk, Subhash Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Sohna Chowk, Sector 4-7 Chowk, and Railway Road.
The line will integrate with the Millennium City Centre-Cyber City metro corridor at Subhash Chowk and Sector 5 stations, while also offering an interchange with the planned rapid rail corridor at Rajiv Chowk.
The second corridor, measuring 13.6 kilometers, will link Golf Course Extension Road with Sector 5, connecting corporate hubs to residential neighborhoods in Old Gurgaon. This route will include stops at Hong Kong Market in Sector 57, Ardee City, Millennium City Centre, Signature Tower, Maharana Pratap Chowk, Atul Kataria Chowk, and Sheetla Mata Road.
The Millennium City Centre station will serve as an interchange with the Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line and the planned corridor to Cyber City, facilitating travel for thousands of commuters heading to new sectors.
“We have invited tenders to prepare the DPRs for the two new metro lines. The 17-kilometer corridor will provide seamless connectivity from the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) to transit hubs, while interchanges with the metro, the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), and the railway station will improve regional and city travel. The 13-kilometer corridor will cover densely populated areas of the city,” an HMRTC official said.
The HMRTC board approved the DPR process in August last year, but progress stalled due to the enforcement of the model code of conduct for the Haryana Assembly elections in October. Now that the state and civic polls are over, the metro expansion plans are back on track, the official added.
