Looking for a house to buy? Apart from budget, location, size, builder and loan prospects, there is something else which is absolutely necessary to consider before making the final decision, i.e., Vastu of the house.

Vastu Shastra, commonly known as Vastu, is nothing but a science of architecture. It primarily deals with the design and layout of a property so that the setup is intended to integrate the architecture with nature, the relative functions of various parts of the structure, and ancient beliefs utilizing geometric patterns.

Over the years Vastu has gained a charismatic image. While some buyers follow its rules as if it is a ‘buying Bible,’ others often tend to consult it at a later stage or ignore it completely. If you are someone who is just starting on a house hunt or have to make a choice between multiple options, Vastu is something which you should consider seriously.

Do not rely on the developer or the broker to inform you about the Vastu of a house. Be aware, carry a compass while you are on a site visit and make the decisions yourself. Here are some basic golden Vastu rules to be considered in a house:

    1. Entrance:

Make sure that the entrance gate of the house is located towards north or northeast. If the property is not standalone and is in an apartment building, the entrance to the block will be considered as the entrance. South and south-west entrances are strongly NOT recommended.

    1. Natural Light:

Make sure to visit the site on multiple times of the day to assess how much sunlight actually reaches the inside of the house as proper ventilation in a house is an essential part of Vastu rule. A North or East-facing flat with windows and balconies on either of these two directions is ideal.

Make sure there are enough windows and balconies in these two directions.

    1. Kitchen:

A kitchen is the heart of any home. Make sure that the kitchen of the house is in the South East zone. The layout of the flat or a house should be in such a way that the kitchen should NOT be directly in front of the primary door.

    4.Master Bedroom:

It would be great if the master bedroom of the house is in the SouthWest corner. It will ensure peace and assist you to relax and get sound sleep. Stay away from oddly shaped rooms.

    1. Kids’ Bedroom:

Vastu says that north-east or north-west part of the house is the most ideal place for kids’ room. A window in the north would prevent direct harmful rays of the sun from entering his/her room, and giving the room ample sunlight at the same time.

    1. Toilets:

According to Vastu Shastra, toilets/washrooms should ideally be on the south-west or the southern corner of the flat. Make sure to check this too as this is one of the very important Golden Vastu Rules.

    1. Center Of The House:

Center of the house should be clutter free and open. It should not have any structural obstruction like a beam or a pillar. It would be ideal if every room, kitchen, and toilets can be assessed from the center of the house.

Make sure check all these Golden Vastu Rules before signing the deal. Better safe than sorry!
